Lavender is a beautiful purple flowery plant in the Mint family with a sweet floral scent. It is native to the Mediterranean Mountains and it grows in sunny, stony habitats.
Lavender Medicinal Uses:
Lavender has antiseptic, antibacterial, anti fungal, anti-inflammatory, anti convulsive and antidepressant properties.
The flowers can be used fresh or dried to treat stress, exhaustion, irritability, headaches, migraines, insomnia, depression, colds, digestion, flatulance, upset stomach, liver and gallbladder problems, nervousness, and loss of appetite.
How to use Lavender:
Lavender can be used in form of essential oil, cold press oil which then can be added to lotions and balms, tea, extracts and tinctures.
A rubdown of Lavender oil before bed time, helps relieve night-time leg muscle spasms. It can also be rubbed directly into the temples to ease headache or
migrane.
Lavender oil is one of the safest essential oils, and it can be applied directly on cuts, scrapes, wounds, burns, bees and wasps stings, rashes, muscle aches, rheumatism, arthritis, cold sores, canker sores, blisters, bruises and athlete's foot.
To make a Lavender Bath - into a large pot, bring water to boil, then add a hand full of Lavender flowers, turn of the stove, cover and let it steep for 5-7 min. Strain the infusion into the bath for relaxation. It also have calming and healing effect over the body and mind.
For insomnia - In a small cloth pouch, add a handful of Lavender flowers and put under the pillow. The strong smell, calms the mind and help you sleep.
Straws of dry Lavender flowers are also burned to disinfect the house or sick hospital rooms.
To make a mouth wash - In a bottle add 1 tbsp of baking soda, few drops of Lavender essential oil and TreeTea essential oil, the base can be either boiled water or a camomile tea infusion, shake well and rinse your mouth twice per day for bad breath and gingivitis.
The Lavender it has been used for thousands of years for its medicinal properties but also for its magical powers.
